Well, that was something.

You know how it is when you really get deep into some idea or subject, devote a lot of time to it, and just when you’re sure you’re a bona fide crank you discover that other people are also thinking about it?

Well, yesterday was the first time I watched Jerry Seinfeld’s excellent new web video series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, and that day a new clip was posted of Seinfeld and Joel Hodgson talking about Allan Sherman.

Watch it here.

It’s ridiculous for me to say now that I had the same thought, but I’ve been ridiculous before.

  1. As a young boy growing up in the early 60s, I would listen to Allan Sherman’s LPs over and over. What’s interesting is that I was unaware of the timeliness of the references, or the significance or intent of the parodies. I found them funny on a visceral level, before I knew what that meant! Can’t wait for the biography!

  2. Hi Frank,

Sorry for the long delay. I’m blogging about my forthcoming Sherman biography on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/AllanShermanBiography and at a blog dedicated to Sherman only at http://www.allanshermanbiography.com/. If you can, I’d love it if you would Like the Facebook page. That way you’ll always know when I’m blogging about Sherman.

And, like you, I listened to Sherman’s LPs over and over. We only had two, Folk Singer and Nut. It took me years to discover the others. But I got such a kick out of the wordplay and fun rhymes.
